Recycling containers showed up at the Art and Design District's "Rock the District" event on Saturday, July 19. Hooray!

A group of us will be meeting with the Art and Design District's merchants to discuss the possibility of "group recycling" by the bars, restaurants and businesses along Main Street.

Also, my neighbors are beginning to ask me about recycling and how to better utilize our curbside pick up, which takes #1 & #2 plastics, glass, cans, newspapers and magazines. The other stuff we collect ourselves and take to places where they will recycle #3-#7 plastic, corrugated cardboard, chipboard (cereal boxes), office paper, and junk mail. Several of us have noticed that our garbage cans now typically have less in them than our recycling cans. We're taking baby steps but we're moving forward!

CarmelFest - more opportunity to talk green

Today Jerry and I volunteered in the City of Carmel booth at CarmelFest. We signed people up for the Carmel Green Initiative e-mail list, asked them about their recycling habits, and shared our enthusiasm for going green. We are encouraged by the positive response we had. People may not be recycling yet, but they are interested in finding out how to do it. We were particularly charmed by two junior high girls who have "started a green group and they now have 4 people in it."

Also, we noted there were NO recycling containers at the CarmelFest event. Trash cans, yes, but nothing for plastics or cans. Ouch. My goal is to make sure CarmelFest 09 has recycling cans as well as trash cans.

Recycling in Carmel - getting things started

Today I met with a motivated group of individuals who want to get the merchants and restaurants of the Arts and Design District to RECYCLE their cardboard, glass, plastics and paper.
